1. What is the pH of alkaline water?

pH is a concept used to evaluate the alkalinity or acidity of a solution (or water source), this scale has a value ranging from 0 - 14. The normal filtered water source that we use every day is called neutral water with a pH of 7.0.

Water sources with pH < 7.0 are called acidic water, which often contains many toxic substances, making it unsafe to use. On the contrary, alkaline water sources often have pH > 7.0 and can be divided into the following types:

  • Mild alkaline water with pH from 8.0 - 8.5 is for those who are new to drinking alkaline water.
  • Alkaline water with a pH of 9.0 - 9.5 is for people who are used to drinking alkaline water or alkaline ionized water. This is the type of water that has the best positive impact on the health of the user.
  • Strong alkaline water pH = 10 is not suitable for direct drinking but users can use it to wash fruits. With superior alkalinity and high pH, the water has the ability to wash away all dirt, chemicals or harmful pesticides on the surface of food, bringing safety to users.
  • Extremely strong alkaline water pH > 11.5 is considered the strongest alkaline water and is not suitable for direct drinking. However, due to its thermal conductivity and self-dissolving properties and good purification ability, this water source can be used for:
  • Foot soak reduces pain and aching bones and joints.
  • Clean food.
  • Remove stains from clothes or household appliances.

Alkaline water usually has a pH > 7.0 with many health benefits.

2. 4 Simple ways to identify alkaline water

To identify alkaline water sources at home, you can try one of the following four ways:

2.1 Using litmus paper

To identify alkaline water sources using litmus paper, you need to follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Take the water to be tested and put it in a small cup.
  • Step 2: Use a prepared litmus paper dipped in water and wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Step 3: After a while, you will notice a change in color on the litmus paper. If the litmus paper turns red, it means the water is acidic, whereas if it turns blue, the water is alkaline. To know the exact pH of the water, you can also compare the color of the paper with the corresponding color on the pH scale.

2.2 Using test strips

Testing alkaline water with litmus paper is a relatively quick and effective method, however in some cases the pH level may deviate from 0.5-1. Therefore, you can use the test strip method for more accurate results. The testing steps are as follows:

  • Step 1: Take the water to be tested and put it in a small cup.
  • Step 2: Dip the prepared test strip into the cup of water above and wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Step 3: Observe the color Check the color on the test strip and compare it with the color on the pH scale. If the color on the strip corresponds to a scale of 1-6, then this is acidic water. On the contrary, if it corresponds to a scale of 8-14, then this is alkaline water.

Alkaline water sources will give a color on the test strip corresponding to a scale of 8-14.

2.3 Using a pH meter

The pH meter is considered the most effective and accurate method of testing alkaline water. The method is also relatively simple, specifically as follows:

  • Step 1: Check the machine's operation by testing with distilled water first. If the result is 7.0, the machine is still normal.
  • Step 2: Take the water to be tested and put it in a small cup, dip one end of the machine into the cup and wait for the result.
  • Step 3: The data displayed on the device is the pH index of the water source to be measured. If this value is greater than 7, then this is definitely alkaline water.

2.4 Using color changing solution

In addition to the above 3 methods, you can also test the pH of water with some color-changing solutions such as Phenolphthalein, Methyl Red, etc. The method for this method is similar to testing with litmus paper:

  • Step 1: Take the water to be tested and put it in a small cup.
  • Step 2: Drop a sufficient amount of color changing solution into a cup of water and wait 1-2 minutes until the water changes color.
  • Step 3: Compare the color of the water after the change with the pH scale. If the result corresponds to the scale from 8-14, the water is alkaline.

Color-changing solutions such as Phenolphthalein, Methyl Red,… help check the alkalinity of water.

3. Drinking alkaline water with a pH of 7.0 - 9.5 is good for your health.

Alkaline water has a pH ranging from 7.0 to 14.0, however only water with a pH of 7.0 - 9.5 is truly good for health and is recommended by many experts:

  • Mild alkaline water pH from 7.0 - 8.5: Used as direct drinking water, for those who want to get used to alkaline water. This water source is suitable for many subjects such as children, the elderly and especially patients with certain diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes,...
  • Alkaline water pH from 9.0 - 9.5: Use for direct drinking when you are used to alkaline water, in addition, this water source can also be used in food preparation, cooking and beverage mixing. Thanks to its natural alkalinity, alkaline water will help the finished product retain all the nutrients while adding a delicious and attractive flavor.

Regular use of alkaline water at this pH level will bring many positive effects to health such as:

  • Enhances the body's resistance and flexibility.
  • Prevent aging process, support skin beauty.
  • Balances excess acid levels, while effectively purifying and detoxifying the body.
  • Support treat some diseases such as diabetes, stomach pain, cancer,...

Currently, there are many modern water purifiers on the market that help users supplement alkaline water more easily, notably Mutosi's Hydrogen line.

With this product line, Mutosi offers 2 technologies of adding Hydrogen through the core and electrolysis technology with a diaphragm. Thanks to that, the pH of the water is stable at 8.0 - 9.5 and the Hydrogen content is also improved from 400-600 ppb with the core addition line and 1300-1500 ppb with the product integrated with the electrolysis system with a diaphragm.

In addition, the output water has 3 times more antioxidant capacity than green tea, not only safe but also very good for health, helping to protect and improve healthy living standards according to Japanese standards.
