Correct understanding of QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT - Direct drinking water standards in Vietnam
1. Standard QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT of the Ministry of Health
QCVN 6-1: 2010/BYT is a national technical regulation stipulating food safety indicators and management requirements for natural mineral water and bottled drinking water, used for beverage purposes.
Details on the circular promulgating National Technical Regulations for natural mineral water and bottled drinking water can be found here .
1.1. Benefits of QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT standard for consumers
QCVN 6-1: 2010/BYT is the highest national standard for direct drinking water today. In addition, some water sources are filtered by water filtration systems that meet Japanese standards, ensuring the health and safety of users.
Drinkable water source
Water sources that comply with quality standards QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT will be controlled for 21 mandatory physical and chemical indicators and 5 mandatory microbiological indicators. Physical and chemical indicators include Arsenic, Ammonium, Lead, Cyanide, Mercury, radioactive substances, etc. Microbiological indicators include E.Coli, Coliform, etc.
When choosing natural mineral water products, bottled drinking water, water purifiers or hot and cold water filters , you should pay attention to whether the product complies with the standards. The filtered water source meets the standards of QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT for direct drinking water or not. In case the product meets the standard certification, you can rest assured to use that water source for direct drinking.
Highest national standards for direct drinking water
QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT of the Ministry of Health is currently the highest national standard for direct drinking water in Vietnam. To be able to use directly, these water sources must be purified of toxic components such as arsenic, nitrite, manganese, harmful microorganisms... to meet the requirements of QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT.
Note: Only water filters that produce water that meets the National Standard for Direct Drinking Water QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT can ensure the safety of users' health. This is also the top criterion when choosing to buy a water filter.
However, not all water filtration devices can produce water that meets QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT standards. It should also be noted that the ability to ensure such effective water filtration needs to be fully, independently, and objectively evaluated, verified, and confirmed by reputable and professional organizations.
Alkaline water purifiers maintain a pH balance between 7.35 - 7.45. This is the ideal value range to maintain a balanced and healthy state for the body - According to the US National Library of Medicine (NIH). If you are looking for this product line and need to ensure that the filtered water meets the standards of QCVN 6-1: 2010/BYT, the Mutosi brand will be a choice worth your attention.

2. QCVN 6-1: 2010/BYT certification inspection process for water purifiers
Currently, the process of testing water purifiers to meet QCVN 6-1: 2010/BYT is being implemented according to official guidelines of WHO and UNICEF, and is recognized by ISO 9001:2010 by the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality, Ministry of Science and Technology.
2.1. Inspection process
The testing process must ensure that the product passes a series of rigorous water treatment efficiency tests and monitoring assessments.
Procedure | Detail |
General assessment of water treatment efficiency | General Test water - Inspection details: Inspect whether the filtered water source meets the QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT standards for direct drinking water or not. - Number of tests: Test repeated 3 times on 3 randomly selected devices of each product batch. |
Challenge Teste water - Inspection details: Tap water is mixed with a concentration of pollutants many times higher than the regulations to ensure the filter is effective for different water sources and input water quality. If the output water quality after filtration still meets both criteria: the reduction of the indicators and the values of the indicators must be below the maximum allowable limit, then it will be certified as the Water source after filtration meets the standards of QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT on direct drinking water. The device can filter water for direct drinking. - Number of tests: Test repeated 3 times on 3 randomly selected devices of each product batch. | |
Monitoring assessment | Randomly evaluate products in use - Content: In this inspection process, the inspection unit will randomly evaluate a percentage of the devices being used by people throughout the product's life cycle, according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This is to ensure that the water filter always ensures effective filtration at all times of use. - Number of tests: Random testing. If any parameter fails, the product certificate will be revoked and widely announced on the inspection unit's website. |
2.2. Inspection steps
The process of testing water purifiers according to standards must follow these steps:
